This event launched a series of research briefs at the intersection of COVID-19 policy and impact in Latin America. Undergraduate and graduate student researchers working at the Center for Global Health Science and Security as well as the Center for Latin American Studies teamed up to provide policy discussion and cultural, political, and social analysis for seven different countries in the region. These briefs cover topics including Indigenous rights, rising rates of gender-based violence, the impact of school closures, economic policy drivers, and sex-based discriminatory policies. In both English and Spanish, the students cover a diverse set of issues across these countries in order to provide key policy insights in order to move toward culturally relevant, effective global health policy in the region and across the world.
Part of the Global Health Security Seminar Series, this event was co-sponsored by the Georgetown University Global Health Initiative (GHI) and Georgetown Center for Global Health Science and Security (CGHSS) with the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) and Latin America Leadership Program (LALP).
