The Georgetown Leadership Seminar (GLS) is Georgetown's most prestigious executive education program. Founded in 1982, it brings rising leaders from all over the world to Georgetown's campus for a week of discussion on major foreign policy issues. Participants are from the public, private, and non-profit sectors and include corporate executives, academics, politicians, NGO leaders, lawyers, diplomats, government officials, and journalists. Throughout the program, participants have the opportunity to engage in formal and informal discussions with participants from numerous countries and diverse backgrounds. The 2016 seminar focused on global issues including the international economy, foreign policy challenges and opportunities, and the political environment in Washington, D.C.

In 2016, GLS hosted Madhukeshwar Desai, a prominent Indian politician and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is the grandson of former Indian Prime Minister Morarji Desai, and at 25 years old, he was appointed national vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP. Madhukeshwar Desai is the founder and CEO of the Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration. Desai's participation in this program demonstrates Georgetown University's commitment to engaging Indian policymakers and thought leaders in order to foster greater engagement between the United States and India.
