Adam Segal

Adam Segal is the Ira A. Lipman chair in emerging technologies and national security and director of the Digital and Cyberspace Policy Program at the Council on Foreign Relations. His research interests include security issues, technology development, and Chinese domestic and foreign policy. He is a participant in the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues faculty research group on business and trade.

  • Author of The Hacked World Order: How Nations Fight, Trade, Maneuver, and Manipulate in the Digital Age (Public Affairs, 2016), and published work in the Financial TimesThe EconomistForeign PolicyThe Wall Street Journal, and Foreign Affairs, among others.
  • Worked as an arms control analyst for the China Project at the Union of Concerned Scientists.
  • Served as visiting scholar at Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and Tsinghua University in Beijing.
