HoyasForShe Student Fellowship
The Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement seeks applicants for HoyasForShe Student Fellowships for the 2019-2020 academic year. Applications are due by midnight on Sunday, September 8.
Part of UN Women’s HeForShe campaign on Georgetown’s campus, the HoyasForShe Student Fellowship is a yearlong opportunity for students to support Georgetown offices that promote gender equity. HeForShe is a United Nations initiative that invites men–and people of all genders–to stand in solidarity with women to create a bold, visible, and united force for gender equality. Since 2016 Georgetown has participated as a founding Impact Champion. The fellowship is inclusive of all gender identities, and is part of a wider university effort to make Georgetown a fully inclusive community.
HoyasForShe Fellows are placed at the following university offices and programs that embody Georgetown’s commitment to the principle of gender equity:
- Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security
- Georgetown Women's Alliance
- Gender+ Justice Initiative
- Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity & Affirmative Action
- Women's and Gender Studies Program
- Health Education Services
Fellows work five to seven hours per week with their unit. Their tasks include helping with events, communications, programs, and/or research as needed. Fellows also meet monthly to engage with invited speakers, and write at least one short article each semester about the work of their unit, HoyasForShe on Georgetown’s campus, or their experiences as HoyasForShe Fellows.
Compensation is $15/hour for undergraduates and $18/hour for graduate students. All full-time undergraduate, graduate, and professional Georgetown students are eligible to apply. Criteria for selection are: academic standing, writing ability, demonstrated experience and commitment, and fit with participating university offices and programs.
Please note that the fellowship lasts both the fall 2019 and spring 2020 semesters, with a review after the fall. Students must be on campus both semesters to be eligible.
Applicants should submit their materials in one combined PDF file to email@example.com by midnight on Sunday, September 8 with a subject line of “LASTNAME-HoyasForShe Student Fellowship.” Applications must include:
- 250-350-word statement of interest
- Unofficial transcript
- 500-800-word writing sample
In their statement of interest, applicants should indicate with which unit(s) they would prefer to be placed (include all that apply). Interviews will take place by phone or in person the week of Monday, September 9 to Friday, September 13.
The list of 2018-2019 student fellows is available on the HoyasForShe Fellows page.
