International Collaborative Grants

Visit the Global Engagement Faculty Grants Overview Page.

International Collaborative Grants support conferences, workshops, or seminars involving at least two Georgetown faculty and at least one foreign collaborator. These grants, of up to $15,000, cover eligible travel and meeting expenses.

Eligibility

Teams of two or more Georgetown faculty are eligible to apply. At least one applicant must be a tenure-line faculty member.

Scope

Grants support the organization and execution of meetings, such as conferences, workshops, or seminars, designed to further Georgetown faculty research in collaboration with international partners. Meetings may be held either on campus or abroad, and should either support the development of a new research project and follow-on grant proposal, or advance an existing project towards completion.

Topics

Topics should have a prominent global, international, or transnational dimension.

Timing

Proposals will be considered by a faculty committee in March and October of each year. Applications for the spring 2018 round are now closed.

Application Process

Applicants should submit their materials in one combined PDF file to global@georgetown.edu, with a subject line of “LASTNAME-International Collaborative Grant.” Applications must include:

  • the application form
  • a one- to two-page memo outlining the purpose, agenda, organization, and envisioned participants for the proposed meeting or meetings. For new research projects, plans for developing grant proposals for further funding should be included. For existing research projects, the rationale for the proposed meeting(s) within the context of the wider project should be clearly stated.
  • a one-page budget outlining proposed expenses for travel, lodging, meals, and event costs. U.S. government per diem rates should be applied when budgeting for travel. Economy flights only. Any other prospective sources of funding should also be stated.
  • abbreviated CVs (five pages maximum) of applicants and proposed collaborators

All applicants should expect to receive confirmation of receipt of their applications.

Decision Criteria

The committee will evaluate proposals with attention to the academic merits of the overall project, the envisioned contribution of the meeting(s), the soundness of the budget, and the availability of funds.

Notification and Execution

The committee will notify applicants of its decisions within a month of the submission deadline. Funds will be transferred to faculty members' departments for distribution in accordance with the approved budget, and all funds not used will be returned. Grants are to be carried out in compliance with relevant university policies regarding travel, funding, and ethics. Within three months of the completion of the grant, a 500-word report outlining its execution, impact, budget expenditures, and any next steps is to be submitted to the Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement at global@georgetown.edu. A short version may be adapted for publication on the Global Georgetown website.
