Georgetown Alumni Network in London Connects Hoyas in Financial Services
Georgetown alumni launched the Georgetown City Alliance in October 2008, a London-based professional networking community for those in the financial services field.
Modeled after Georgetown's Wall Street Alliance, the City Alliance connects over 900 Georgetown alumni, parents, students, and friends interested in networking, mentoring, career counseling, or promoting Georgetown's profile in the London financial community.
High-Profile Networking Opportunities
The alliance hosts two major events each year featuring prominent speakers and university representatives. Since 2008, over 2,000 have attended the group's 10 events, which have been hosted by well-known companies such as the Blackstone Group, Nomura, Goldman Sachs, and Bank of America.
The alliance is composed mostly of young senior executives in the financial sector across Europe and the Middle East, 70 percent of whom have graduated after 1991. The City Alliance works to build relationships between members' firms and Georgetown for the mutually beneficial exchange of resources.
Currently, the City Alliance is headed by three co-chairs: Joseph P. Baratta (B'93), Dr. Martin Halusa (C'77), and Paul R. Harvey (B'85).
Georgetown’s London Connections
The City Alliance in London is just one of many opportunities for Georgetown alumni to connect with fellow Hoyas in the United Kingdom.
Another example is the Georgetown University Alumni Club of the United Kingdom, an association of over 1,100 current and former Hoyas who are living and working in the United Kingdom. In April 2013, the U.K. Alumni Club hosted John Carroll Weekend, attracting over 480 Georgetown alumni, the largest-ever gathering of alumni outside the United States.
