Fr. Matthew Carnes, S.J., is an associate professor in the Department of Government and in the Walsh School of Foreign Service, and he has served as the director of the Center for Latin American Studies since July 2016. He joined the Georgetown faculty in 2009 and was a member of the Latin America Initiative Faculty Committee (2016-2017).
International activities include:
- Author of Continuity Despite Change: The Politics of Labor Market Regulation in Latin America, and over eight journal articles on issues of labor and social welfare policies in Latin America.
- Teaches in the M.A. in Development Management and Policy program, offered jointly by Georgetown University and the Universidad Nacional de San Martín in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
- Reviewer for American Political Science Review, Social Science Quarterly, British Journal of Political Science, World Politics, Colombia Internacional, Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, and others.
