Twenty-five years ago in Beijing the global community fully endorsed gender equality as a fundamental human right. While women and girls have made advances since the Beijing Declaration in areas ranging from education and healthcare to economic opportunity, deep inequalities remain—many exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ambassador Melanne Verveer, a leading advocate for women’s rights and executive director of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, engaged in a timely conversation on how to accelerate progress for women and girls in the years ahead. The discussion was hosted by Sarah von Thun-Hohenstein, a former member of the Georgetown University Board of Regents.
The webinar series is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement in collaboration with the Office of the Provost.
