John McNeill is a professor in the Department of History and the School of Foreign Service. He joined the Georgetown faculty in 1985.
International activities include:
- Author of five books on environmental history including Something New Under the Sun (2000), which won the World History Association book prize and Forest History Society book prize; and Mosquito Empires (2010), which won the Beveridge Prize of the American Historical Association for the Best Book on the History of the Western Hemisphere
- Editor or co-editor of 12 books and author of dozens of journal articles and book chapters
- Winner of two Fulbright awards, a MacArthur grant, fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and Woodrow Wilson Center, and past president of the American Society for Environmental History
