Georgetown University has significant academic and outreach relationships in Africa.

Across schools and departments, Georgetown faculty are involved in multidisciplinary research and teaching on Africa's history, development, politics, and culture. The African Studies Program, the Center for Global Health Practice and Impact, and the Georgetown University Initiative on Innovation, Development and Evaluation are hubs for much of this activity. The university’s Washington, DC, location facilitates academic and cultural exchanges with Georgetown’s African partners, as does the presence of the World Bank and other leading international organizations.

Over the course of 2022, Georgetown University Representative in Rome Debora Tonelli convened a series of dialogues to discuss challenges and opportunities facing Africa more broadly in order to dispel negative stereotypes and highlight Africa’s cultural contributions on a regional and global scale.

The Office of Global Education provides advising, agreement management, emergency response, and other services related to undergraduate study-abroad programs. It is co-located and closely collaborates with the Office of Global Services.
