Georgetown University has a rich history of academic engagement across East Asia and the Pacific, encompassing faculty and student exchange and strong institutional ties.

The Asian Studies Program in the School of Foreign Service offers a master's degree in Asian studies and is home to a National Resource Center for East Asia. In January 2016 Georgetown launched an Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues, a university platform for engagement among scholars, students, and practitioners to advance dialogue and promote solutions to global challenges ranging from climate change to peace and security. In January 2025, Georgetown opened a new facility in Jakarta, Indonesia, to house the Georgetown SFS Asia Pacific program, which engages faculty and students on the challenges of the Global South and the Asia-Pacific region through cutting-edge research and academic programs. The Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language programs within the College of Arts & Sciences encompass language, literature, and cultural studies. Georgetown Law's Center for Asian Law promotes scholarly exchange and joint research with colleagues across the region. The China Forum for Civilizational Dialogue, a collaboration between Georgetown and La Civiltà Cattolica, convenes Chinese academics and public figures with international partners to discuss common challenges at the intersection of culture, ethics, and global society. Alongside Europe, the Asia-Pacific region is a popular destination for students and faculty. Three of Georgetown's most active international partners are Fudan University in Shanghai, Tsinghua University in Beijing, and Sophia University in Tokyo, a fellow Jesuit institution.
