Georgetown University has strong academic ties with Europe and a long history of engaging with the region.

The School of Foreign Service is home to two leading centers dedicated to European affairs–the BMW Center for German and European Studies and the Center for Eurasian, Russian, and East European Studies. Georgetown Law operates the Center for Transnational Legal Studies in London, which is a unique global partnership in legal education that engages students and faculty from 24 law schools across the world. In 2024, the Earth Commons Institute established a global extension in Greece (Eco Greece) that serves as a collaborative hub for environmental and sustainability innovation, research, and education. The university also owns and operates a villa as a study abroad and conference center in Florence, Italy, and maintains the Georgetown University Representative Office in Rome to support academic collaborations and coordinate outreach to the Vatican and other institutions.

Founded in 1990, the BMW Center for German and European Studies in the Walsh School of Foreign Service offers an undergraduate certificate and graduate degree programs with interdisciplinary research and teaching on Germany and modern Europe.
